About the Illustration

Six queens gather around a richly dressed king within an airy palace interior. Carved columns, pierced stonework and a reflective pool provide an elaborate architectural setting, while the varied colours of the women's robes enliven the scene. The broad composition shows Goble's skill in arranging figures within decorative space.
