Terms of service

Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made through Arch Books. By placing an order with us, you agree to the terms set out below.

Availability

All items are offered subject to availability and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

As many of our books, prints, maps, and works on paper are rare, unique, or limited in number, placing an item in your basket does not reserve it until the order has been completed and payment has been received.

If an item becomes unavailable after an order has been placed, we will contact you as soon as possible.

Payment & Ownership

Payment must be made in full at the time of purchase unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Ownership of the goods remains with Arch Books until full payment has been received and cleared. Once payment has been received, the item will be prepared for dispatch.

Product Descriptions

We take great care to describe all items accurately, including details of edition, publication date, binding, illustrations, dimensions, condition, provenance, and any notable faults where relevant.

Please read the item description carefully before placing an order. Photographs form part of the description and should be reviewed alongside the written details.

Because many of our items are antique, vintage, rare, or previously owned, minor signs of age, handling, use, toning, wear, or previous ownership may be present. These are part of the character of such items and are not necessarily considered defects.

Any significant flaws, blemishes, repairs, losses, or imperfections known to us will be described in the relevant listing.

Condition of Items

We aim to give a clear and fair account of condition in every listing.

Books, prints, maps, and works on paper may vary in condition depending on age, materials, binding, storage history, and previous use. Antique and vintage items may naturally show signs of age.

Where condition terms such as “Good”, “Very Good”, “Fair”, or “Poor” are used, they are intended as a guide only and should be read together with the full written description and photographs.

Authenticity

All items offered by Arch Books are described according to the information available to us at the time of listing.

Where an item is described as antique, vintage, original, first edition, limited edition, or otherwise, this reflects our professional assessment based on available bibliographic, publication, material, and provenance information.

Unless clearly stated otherwise, items described as original prints, maps, books, or works on paper are not modern reproductions.

Publication dates are provided as accurately as possible and may refer to the date of the source book, atlas, periodical, portfolio, or original publication in which the item appeared.

Pricing

All prices are listed in pounds sterling unless otherwise stated.

We reserve the right to correct pricing errors. If a pricing error is discovered after an order has been placed, we will contact you before proceeding.

Order Confirmation

After placing an order, you should receive confirmation by email. This confirms that we have received your order, but it does not guarantee availability until the item has been checked and payment has cleared.

We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order where necessary, including where an item is unavailable, incorrectly priced, or cannot be supplied for any other reason.

Dispatch

We aim to prepare and dispatch orders promptly following receipt of cleared payment.

During busy periods, holidays, exhibitions, travel, or other exceptional circumstances, dispatch may take slightly longer. Where a delay is expected, we will communicate this clearly.

Full delivery details, including shipping methods, delivery times, restrictions, customs information, and lost parcel guidance, are set out in our separate Shipping Policy.

Packaging

All items are packed with care and in a manner appropriate to their size, value, age, and fragility.

Books, prints, maps, framed items, and works on paper may require different packing methods depending on their nature. We take particular care to protect rare, delicate, and collectible items in transit.

Risk in Transit

We are responsible for ensuring that your order is packed appropriately and passed to the courier or postal service selected for delivery.

Once dispatched, delivery times and handling are subject to the courier or postal service. If an issue arises in transit, please contact us so that we can investigate and assist.

Returns & Refunds

Returns and refunds are covered separately in our Returns & Refunds Policy.

Please refer to that page for details of the return window, how to notify us of a return, change of mind returns, damaged or misdescribed items, and refund processing.

Customer Responsibilities

By placing an order, you agree to provide accurate billing, delivery, and contact information.

You are responsible for ensuring that the delivery address is correct and complete. If you notice an error after placing your order, please contact us as soon as possible.

You are also responsible for reviewing the item description, photographs, condition notes, dimensions, and any other listing details before completing your purchase.

Privacy & Payment Security

We collect and use customer information only as necessary to process orders, arrange delivery, communicate with customers, and meet our legal and administrative obligations.

Your name, billing address, delivery address, email address, and order details may be stored for order processing and record keeping.

We do not store your credit card details. Payment information is handled securely by the relevant payment provider.

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Intellectual Property

All website content, including photographs, descriptions, text, logos, branding, and layout, belongs to Arch Books unless otherwise stated.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or use our content for commercial purposes without written permission.

Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits any rights you may have under applicable consumer law.

Arch Books will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or loss arising from delays outside our reasonable control.

Our total liability in relation to any order will not exceed the price paid for the item or items concerned, except where the law provides otherwise.

Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
