About the Illustration

A finely dressed man speaks to a woman in a yellow sari beside the twisting roots of a great tree. Pink blossoms and dense foliage frame the two figures, while small vessels rest on the ground between them. The landscape composition brings together richly patterned costume and Goble's luxuriant treatment of the natural world.
