About the Illustration

A woman carrying a water vessel on her head passes beneath a great tree beside a quiet lotus pool. A pale, almost transparent figure appears against the trunk, introducing a supernatural presence into the scene. Deep greens, pink blossoms and hanging foliage make this one of Goble's more mysterious woodland compositions.
