About the Illustration

A long-haired princess stands among pink lotus flowers at the edge of a secluded pool, while a second woman watches from the palace steps. Cool green water, slender reeds and pale stonework create a particularly atmospheric composition, with the flowing hair and drapery characteristic of Goble's fairy-tale illustrations.
