About the Illustration
Figures flee through a wooded clearing, leaving a scattered hoard of money, jewels and decorative objects behind them. Two onlookers remain beside the great tree at the left, giving the scene a playful sense of unfolding drama. The broad composition allows Goble to combine vigorous movement with a wealth of small narrative details.
