About the Illustration

A woman with a water pot pauses outside a thatched dwelling to address a man standing on a woodland path. Twisting branches, rounded stones and warm autumnal tones give the scene an intimate, rustic character. The landscape format makes an attractive companion to Goble's other village and forest subjects.
