About the Illustration
Two young figures pause beneath a great spreading tree, with a trail of fallen fruit and leaves curving across the grass at their feet. The leading figure wears a patterned green tunic and a pink cap, while the companion behind holds the end of a trailing scarf. Flowers and dark foliage enclose the scene. Goble uses the twisting trunk and the winding line on the ground to give this woodland encounter an intimate, slightly mysterious character.
About the Artist

His skill in watercolour and interest in Japanese and Indian art helped shape a distinctive style, combining delicate colour with flowing line and decorative detail.
