About the Illustration

A lively procession of fantastical demons swirls around a seated man and an earthenware vessel. Exaggerated faces, brilliantly coloured turbans and twisting limbs fill the composition with movement and humour. The pale background makes Goble's fine drawing and vivid accents especially effective.
