About the Illustration

Ghostly figures gather around a frightened man crouching among the exposed roots of an ancient tree. Their elongated limbs and wisplike bodies emerge from the blue-green darkness, while dense branches stretch across the scene. A particularly atmospheric landscape illustration, combining Goble's delicate line with an unsettling supernatural subject.
