The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
London: Macmillan and Co., London, 1894-5.
First Edition, first Impressions. Published by Macmillan and Co., London, between 1894-5. Both are near fine examples. They are bound in publisher's original royal blue cloth elaborately stamped in gilt, top edges gilt and most importantly without damage to the gilt and edges. They both have clean and bright boards with very bright gilt indeed. A few light translucent marks only to boards with very bright gilt titles & edges. There is some foxing and an expertly repaired tear to the title page in the Second Jungle Book but externally they are near fine.
Overall, these are a great pair of iconic titles, rare in this condition. A collection of stories by Rudyard Kipling. Most of the characters are animals such as Shere Khan the tiger and Baloo the bear, though a principal character is the boy or “man-cub” Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by wolves.
