Description:

The illustrations were designed by Alexander Francis Lydon and produced by the noted printer and engraver Benjamin Fawcett at his workshop in Driffield, Yorkshire.

Fawcett’s plates were created using multiple engraved wood blocks, with separate colours printed in succession before being finished with delicate hand-colouring. This painstaking process gave the illustrations their characteristic clarity, restrained colouring and remarkable depth.

Printed on excellent-quality nineteenth-century paper, the plate retains an attractive ivory tone and remains suitable for framing.
