Wider Description of the Collection:

Published by Macmillan & Co., Limited, London, 1913, The Fairy Book: The Best Popular Fairy Stories Selected and Rendered Anew was illustrated by Warwick Goble, one of the most accomplished artists of the Golden Age of British book illustration. Containing thirty-two exquisite colour plates, this volume reimagined classic tales such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Three Golden Apples in Goble’s distinctive ethereal style.

These original 1913 prints were produced using high-quality chromolithographic techniques, printed on fine art paper with delicate tints and transparent layers to achieve Goble’s trademark luminosity. Each plate exemplifies his blend of soft romanticism and refined linework — a hallmark that places him alongside contemporaries such as Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham.

Warwick Goble (1862–1943) was a British illustrator celebrated for his interpretations of fairy tales, legends, and oriental romances. Educated at the City of London School and Westminster School of Art, Goble first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1893. His work for Macmillan and others — including Green Willow and Other Japanese Fairy Tales (1910) and The Water-Babies (1913) — firmly established him among the foremost illustrators of the early twentieth century.

These plates are original prints from the first edition of 1913, not reproductions, and are ideal for framing or collecting.
