In 1952, Hunt was chosen to lead the British expedition to Everest. He was selected for his military leadership experience and his climbing credentials. The expedition was a major undertaking, involving hundreds of porters and Sherpas, as well as a team of experienced climbers.
Hunt's leadership was crucial to the success of the expedition. He made key decisions about the route, the camps, and the climbing teams. He also fostered a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie among the members of the expedition.
On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Everest, becoming the first people to do so. Hunt did not reach the summit himself, but he played a vital role in the success of the expedition
