Animal Farm by George Orwell

London: Secker & Warburg, 1945

First edition, first impression of George Orwell's Animal Farm: A Fairy Story. This highly collectible edition of Orwell's allegorical masterpiece was published in 1945

In his 1946 essay "Why I Write," Orwell remarked that "Animal Farm was the first book in which I consciously attempted to merge political and artistic purposes into a cohesive whole." Although the imprint of the first impression is dated "May 1945," the publication was delayed until August due to wartime paper shortages.
